UK Dairy Exports Reach Record Levels with EU as Key Market
UK dairy exports soared to a record £2.2 billion in 2025, marking a 16.6% increase from the previous year. This growth was driven by increased demand in global markets, particularly within the European Union, which accounted for 73.9% of the total export value. The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) played a significant role in promoting these exports through a range of events and marketing activities.
The AHDB's International Trade Development team organized 28 events across various international locations, from San Diego to Singapore, making 2025 their busiest year. These activities included seven retail promotions and eight marketing events aimed at increasing the visibility and demand for British dairy products overseas.
Jonathan Eckley, AHDB international trade development director, emphasized the success of 2025 in illustrating the global demand for UK dairy and red meat products. He noted the importance of consumer and market insights in shaping their promotional activities to support export businesses.
Lucy Randolph, head of international trade development for dairy at AHDB, expressed confidence in continuing this momentum into 2026 with significant participation planned for Food and Hotel Asia in Singapore. She highlighted the critical role exports play in providing a long-term outlet for surplus production and supporting price resilience.
Exports are crucial for the UK dairy industry, helping to balance domestic supply and ensuring long-term profitability. The AHDB's efforts in international trade development are a cornerstone of their activities, supporting levy payers by expanding export opportunities.
