Trouw Nutrition Ends Belfast Feed Production and Changes Irish Operations

Trouw Nutrition introduced a revised operating and delivery structure for the island of Ireland after reviewing its manufacturing, commercial and customer-service activities. The company had announced the Belfast closure in May 2026. Production at the Ship Street site has now ended, while the facility closed permanently on September 30.

The change applies to manufacturing rather than to the company’s wider presence in Northern Ireland. Trouw Nutrition will retain its headquarters at Clarendon Dock in Belfast, where its commercial, sales, technical-support and customer-service teams will continue to operate.

Feed products for customers across Ireland will be made at the company’s established facilities in Great Britain and elsewhere in Europe. Trouw Nutrition will also use its long-standing partnership with North Down Grain in Newtownards to support local supply in Northern Ireland.

Bruce Spain, Trouw Nutrition’s country manager for the UK and Ireland, acknowledged that the restructuring had caused disruption and uncertainty for employees and customers. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the island of Ireland and said the changes were intended to strengthen its position in the regional livestock-feed market.

The company said the revised structure reflected changing requirements in the feed industry, including stronger demands for traceability and regulatory compliance. It described the combination of established manufacturing locations and local supply support as a way to maintain product availability through a more consolidated production network.

Trouw Nutrition also said it had invested in its regional model in recent months by reinforcing commercial and technical capabilities and expanding its local team. The Ireland operation will place greater emphasis on customer relationships, technical expertise and service delivery, while innovation and customer service remain stated priorities.

The closure therefore changes where manufacturing is carried out, rather than ending Trouw Nutrition’s Irish-market activities. The company’s Belfast-based customer-facing functions will remain in place, and North Down Grain will provide an additional supply connection within Northern Ireland as the new model takes effect.
