Irish agri-food co-operative Tirlán has announced its 2025 Trading Bonus Scheme, a program designed to reward farmer members and customers for their engagement with the co-op.
The initiative, revealed on Friday, December 20, marks an evolution of the bonus structure introduced in 2018, with a renewed focus on enhancing milk solids production and farm profitability.
Milk Supplier Focus
Tirlán Chairperson John Murphy highlighted the revamped approach, noting the importance of spring feeding in improving milk solids output.
“In 2025, we are reshaping the dairy element of the trading bonus scheme to focus on driving milk solids production through peak,” Murphy said.
The co-op has introduced a new milk solids tracker to assist farmers in monitoring production and optimizing herd performance.
Dairy Feed and Calf Milk Replacer Bonuses
Tirlán outlined several specific bonuses for 2025:
Dairy Feed Bonus: Farmers will receive a €30 per tonne rebate on GAIN dairy feed purchases made between January 1 and April 30, subject to a maximum of 110,000 tonnes. The rebate will be credited to trading accounts in the second half of the year.
Calf Milk Replacer Bonus: A €60 per tonne rebate is available on GAIN calf milk replacer purchases during the same period, capped at 2,000 tonnes.
Both bonuses are exclusive to farmer customers, with the dairy feed bonus also extended to active Tirlán customers who purchased feed using their trading accounts in the past 12 months.
Ailish Byrne, Tirlán’s Chief Agribusiness Officer, emphasized the profitability potential of increasing milk solids production.
“This reshaped dairy feed bonus is one of several measures aimed at helping farmers boost productivity,” she said. “Our recently launched online milk solids tracker is already enhancing farm efficiency.”
Grain, Beef, and Sheep Bonuses
For grain farmers, Tirlán will continue offering bonuses tied to input purchases:
Grain Trading Bonus: Payments of up to €10 per tonne will apply for input purchases exceeding €60 per tonne in 2025. Lower rates of €7.50/t and €5/t apply for input spends of €50–€60 and €40–€50 per tonne, respectively. The scheme covers green and dried grain supplies from the 2025 harvest.
Beef and sheep farmer members also stand to benefit:
Feed Bonus: Co-op members purchasing beef and sheep feed throughout 2025 will receive a €10 per tonne rebate.
Straights Feed Bonus: Non-milk suppliers qualify for a €3 per tonne rebate on straights feed purchases.
These feed trading bonuses are not applicable to dairy feed purchases or milk suppliers.
Driving Long-Term Sustainability
Tirlán’s 2025 Trading Bonus Scheme underscores the co-op’s commitment to supporting its farmer members through innovative tools and incentives that enhance efficiency and profitability. With new measures like the milk solids tracker and tailored bonuses, the scheme aims to reinforce Tirlán’s role as a key partner for Ireland’s agricultural community.
