The European Dairy Industry Sees the EU-MERCOSUR Agreement as a Competitive Boost

The European dairy industry has warmly welcomed the new EU-MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement, regarding it as a crucial step to enhance global competitiveness through increased market access and the removal of trade barriers. Representatives from the European Dairy Association (EDA) have hailed the agreement as a key development.

The agreement provides for the reduction or elimination of tariffs and non-tariff barriers, thereby offering greater access to the MERCOSUR market for European products. Additionally, a tariff quota of 30,000 tonnes of cheese has been established for MERCOSUR countries, drastically enhancing the EU's cheese exports to the region.

Projections from the European Commission suggest that overall EU exports could increase by 39%, with agri-food exports rising nearly 50%. The economic boost is expected to contribute €77.6 billion to the EU's GDP.
