Tetra Pak has officially opened its new Product Development Centre for Powder Process and Technology in Cholet, France. This strategic move aims to accelerate innovation and optimize processes for powdered food and beverages, particularly in response to the growing global demand for protein products.
The center, occupying 340 square meters, is part of Tetra Pak's global ecosystem of Product Development Centres (PDC). It offers food manufacturers unique opportunities to achieve desired product functionalities, test various formulations, and establish brand or product identity to enhance their market entry strategies.
The new facility is equipped with a fully staffed pilot plant featuring modular production lines and advanced powder processing technologies, including the Air Jet Cleaning system and the Production Control Ignition user interface. The center also houses a specialized testing laboratory to ensure quality control, standards compliance, and process optimization.
The center supports manufacturers at all stages of the innovation cycle—from prototype to finished product on the shelf. This includes raw material characterization, recipe development, pilot modeling, and scaling up to industrial levels. The center's library contains over 6,000 powder samples and tools for in-depth evaluation of their properties and behavior in various applications, such as dairy products, beverages, whey protein, and functional foods.
According to Tetra Pak, the new facility will help food manufacturers reduce development costs and product losses while increasing output and speeding up time to market. Additionally, the center contributes to sustainable development goals by implementing more efficient and resource-saving processing methods.
The modular design of the facility allows tests to be tailored to each client's specific requirements. Each test can be monitored remotely through high-definition streaming, providing real-time interaction and detailed post-test reports. Clients worldwide can access recordings, technical data, and product samples.
