Strong Sales Performance in UK Livestock Auctions Amidst High Demand
In a series of recent livestock auctions across the UK, significant sales figures were achieved, reflecting the robust demand for quality breeding stock and prime lambs. At the Black Magic online sale of Suffolk females, a gimmer from Mark Priestley's Limestone flock in Downpatrick fetched a record £14,000, sold to Ben Lynch of Ernevalley Livestock. This prize-winning gimmer, named Limestone Posh Spice, had previously stood champion at the Northern Ireland Championships.
Meanwhile, the Winton Holstein sale near Beverley saw a top price of 6,000gns for Winton Sidekick Ghost, an EX91-rated cow, bought by Izzy Lee for the Silversparkle herd. The sale featured 17 cows trading in excess of 4,000gns, highlighting the strong market for high-quality dairy cows.
In the prime lamb market, premium prices were maintained at Penrith, with a pen of four Texels achieving 525p/kg. The overall sale average for 777 prime lambs was recorded at 427p/kg or £186/head, underlining the continued high demand for lambs.
Additionally, at the Borderway auction, a Limousin bull from the Goldie family's herd fetched 10,000gns, showcasing the sustained interest in top-tier breeding bulls. The sale of Ringway Vatanen for 8,500gns and other notable transactions further emphasized the market's strength.
Auctioneers Norton and Brooksbank, Harrison and Hetherington, and others facilitated these transactions, reflecting a vibrant livestock market across various segments. Average prices for cows, heifers, and bulls varied, indicating a comprehensive demand across different categories.
