Despite a modest entry at CCM Skipton’s late October Craven Dairy Auction, the atmosphere remained positive, with a strong turnout of milk producers eager to bid. Levi Wrathall of Gisburn served as the judge for the heifers-in-milk class, awarding the champion title to a 27-day calved heifer from Pete Baul’s Ravensgate Sparkle line, sired by Peak Danger. This high-performing heifer, supported by a dam with two lactations exceeding 15,000kg, fetched £2,850 from buyer Mark Goodall of Tong, Bradford.

Joining the champion in the same trailer was the third prize heifer, Ravensgate Argonaut Blossom 253, also from Baul’s stable. This 17-day calved heifer, producing 32kg, achieved the day’s highest sale price at £3,000.

The reserve champion, an early October-calved Sound System daughter from Norman and Chris Bell of Cowling, presented a robust 30kg yield and was acquired by Brian Mellin of Blackpool for £2,550.

A selection of in-calf heifers, showcasing promising udders and due in November and December to Angus sires, achieved notable prices as well. These well-grown heifers, sired by Genus ABS bulls Flowrider and Boxcar, peaked at £1,900, averaging £1,750 across four lots. Heifers-in-milk averaged £2,525 overall.
