Sri Lanka Unveils First National Competency Standard for Dairy Machine Operators
Fonterra Brands Lanka, in collaboration with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), and several partners, has officially introduced Sri Lanka’s inaugural National Competency Standard designed for dairy machine operators. This initiative, celebrated with the presence of Vocational Education Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage, signifies a landmark development in the vocational education sector. Developed over a year through a collaborative and funded effort, this standard aims to formalize and recognize the skills of experienced operators in the dairy industry who previously lacked a recognized qualification. This Competency Standard will be implemented via NAITA’s training network, offering broader access and formal recognition to machine operators throughout Sri Lanka. Fonterra's General Manager stated, "This Competency Standard is the result of a year of dedicated collaboration, driven by our belief that every skilled individual deserves formal recognition." This benchmark serves not only current industry players but also newcomers, aligning practical industry expertise with formal vocational standards and highlighting the significance of public-private partnerships in sustainable workforce development. By spearheading this initiative, the dairy industry in Sri Lanka contributes to building a more competitive and future-ready workforce, ensuring the country’s progress through strategic upskilling efforts.
