Soprole launches Chile’s first oat-piece yoghurt in an aseptic carton

Soprole’s Yoghurt con Avena combines stirred yoghurt with pieces of oat in a carton designed for aseptic filling. The launch marks the first commercial use in Chile of SIG Drinksplus, a system developed for foods containing solid particles.

SIG designed the technology to handle ingredients such as oats, fruit and cereals during aseptic processing and filling. According to the company, particles can be incorporated within the filling operation rather than requiring a separate packaging approach.

Aseptic cartons are used for products that require stability and protection without continuous refrigeration. Before the introduction of this application, solid ingredients created production constraints for manufacturers seeking to use that format for yoghurt and other foods.

The technology allows manufacturers to combine a particulate ingredient with a carton format while retaining the product’s texture and nutritional composition. It also permits the resulting products to be stored on ordinary shelves under ambient conditions, rather than depending exclusively on refrigerated presentation.

Soprole is SIG’s first customer in Chile to operate with Drinksplus. The launch forms part of a broader collaboration between the two companies in the country focused on developing additional products in aseptic cartons.

The companies presented the product as an application of aseptic packaging to a category that includes solid pieces. For dairy manufacturers, the format provides another way to package yoghurt products containing ingredients such as oats, while maintaining the storage characteristics associated with aseptic cartons.
