SIGEP China Promotes Italian Artisan Gelato in Shanghai

SIGEP China is scheduled for June 17-18 at the PICH School in Shanghai, aiming to promote Italian artisan gelato within the Chinese market. Organized by the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) in collaboration with ICE Agency, Unione Italiana Food – Gelato Products Group, ACOMAG, and Gelato World Cup, this roadshow is part of SIGEP's international strategy to enhance the presence of Italian gelato globally.

The event coincides with Discover Gelato, further boosting the visibility of Italian gelato abroad. In 2025, the Chinese ice cream market exceeded 95 billion yuan, with the artisanal segment growing annually by 15-18%. Shanghai, known for its experiential retail and dining, offers a strategic setting for Italian gelato expansion as consumption becomes less seasonal.

The roadshow spans two days, targeting media, horeca professionals, and students. The first day features opening events with Italian and Chinese officials, followed by demonstrations for media and influencers. Afternoon sessions will provide professional training for horeca operators, bakeries, cafes, and investors.

The second day focuses on PICH School students, offering theoretical and practical workshops on gelato history, production techniques, and differences among various gelato types. Notable speakers include Fabio De Cillis of ITA, Ilaria Cicero of IEG, and Sergio Colalucci of Gelato World Cup.

Ilaria Cicero, global exhibition director of IEG’s Food & Beverage Division, highlighted the significance of SIGEP China in the brand's international development. The event is part of a broader effort to connect businesses and markets, showcasing the excellence of Italian gelato worldwide.
