Russia Increases Dairy Consumption Amid Record Production

The expansion of the raw material base allows for full utilization of dairy processing enterprises. Positive dynamics were maintained for the main types of products in Russia last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Growth in production has been a key factor in increasing domestic consumption.

By the end of last year, per capita milk consumption increased by 0.6%, and the positive trend continues in 2026.

According to available data, an increase in dairy consumption is also observed in 2026, noted the agency.

The increase in production volumes contributed to the relative stabilization of the price situation in the market.

As of February 16, 2026:

- Butter prices decreased by 5.3% year-on-year
- Pasteurized milk prices increased by 5.4%
- Cheese prices rose by 3.5%

This dynamic reflects differences in processing segments and demand structure.

External trade remains an additional driver of the industry.

By the end of 2025, the export of Russian dairy products increased by almost 14%, indicating the growing competitiveness of the industry in international markets.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation maintains the strategic goal of further expanding production.

By 2030, it is planned to increase raw milk production to 38.5 million tons.

The implementation of these plans will allow:

- Achieving a self-sufficiency level of 90% for milk and dairy products,
- Meeting the indicators of the Food Security Doctrine.
