Russia Ready to Replace Iranian Food Supplies for Central Asia
Russia has the potential to fill the food supply volumes previously provided by Iran to Central Asian countries, and to offer partners solutions in the energy and agrochemical sectors, reports inbusiness.kz citing Vesti.
According to Anatoly Tikhonov, director of the Russian Center for Agribusiness and Food Security at the Presidential Academy, milk products and certain types of vegetables are particularly important for countries like Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. Russian producers can replace the supplies that were previously provided by Iran, thus securing the region's markets.
"We can directly substitute the volumes of products that were previously imported from Iran. In fact, Russia is capable of filling the vacant niches in the markets of these countries," Tikhonov explained.
He added that for Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan, the issue of milk supply is particularly relevant in the near future. Additionally, part of the vegetable supplies to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was also previously directed towards the Iranian market.
Previously, Tikhonov also noted that among Central Asian countries, Tajikistan remains the most dependent on Iranian supplies. According to him, the volume of goods purchased from Iran by Dushanbe exceeded 600 million dollars.
