Reliance enters India’s ice-cream market with Bombay Creamery
Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer-goods arm of Reliance Industries Limited, announced the launch of Bombay Creamery on 1 September. The company described the move as a focused, long-term entry into India’s ice-cream market.
RCPL is presenting the brand as an affordable premium dairy offering. Its products will use genuine dairy ingredients, including real dairy cream, and will be sold in cones, cups, tubs, bars and sticks. Prices will begin at ₹10, a level the company said was intended to make dairy-based ice cream more accessible to Indian consumers.
Bombay Creamery will initially be available in western India. RCPL said it would then extend availability progressively across the country, using Reliance’s nationwide distribution network and broad retail presence. The company also plans to apply its consumer insights to the brand’s development.
T Krishnakumar, a director of RCPL, said the brand had been built around the use of genuine dairy ingredients. “We built Bombay Creamery around one simple idea that dairy shouldn’t need shortcuts. RCPL is not just entering the ice cream category—we’re committing to it. Made with real dairy cream, Bombay Creamery guarantees the promise of genuine taste of a real ice cream every single time, at a price every Indian family can afford,” he said, according to ANI.
RCPL’s existing portfolio spans food, beverages, personal care and household products. Campa Cola is its beverage brand, with cola, orange and lemon variants. Its Independence range includes sunflower oil, wheat flour and packaged drinking water, while Udham and Mana sell pulses, grains and rice. SiL offers noodles, sauces, jams and other condiments, and Maliban covers biscuits, crackers and confectionery.
In personal care, RCPL sells Glimmer, Puric and Get Real soaps, alongside hair-care products from Brylcreem and Toni & Guy. Its household range includes Dozo dishwashing products, Enzo detergents and HomeGuard floor and toilet cleaners. Isha Ambani is RCPL’s executive director and oversees its strategic direction, capital investments and expansion objectives.
