Record Attendance and Achievements at Newry Show 2026
The Newry Show 2026 marked a significant milestone with a record number of entries in cattle, sheep, and goats, held on June 27. Among the highlights was the Holstein third calver, Ernevale Alligator Rosina EX 92, which was named the Dairy Champion. Exhibited by David Simpson and Andrew Patterson, Rosina is currently producing 48 liters of milk daily and is now eligible for the Dairy Cow of the Year event at Antrim Show in July.
David Simpson shared that Rosina was purchased from Seamus Gunn in County Fermanagh before her recent calving. Andrew Patterson noted her remarkable mammary system and expressed their intention to prepare her for major shows in 2027.
The event also showcased a significant achievement for Crawford Brothers from Maguiresbridge, with their Limousin cow, Rathkeeland Tendresse, winning the Beef Inter-Breed Championship. This victory marks the cow's fifth title of the 2026 season, having previously triumphed at Saintfield, Ballymena, Lurgan, and Armagh Shows.
Inter-breed beef judge Matthew Goulding praised Rathkeeland Tendresse for her exceptional breed characteristics, including scope, presence, power, and mobility. Stephen Crawford highlighted the positive feedback from farmers using their bulls commercially, emphasizing their investment in high-quality Limousin genetics.
The reserve beef inter-breed accolade went to a British Blue-Limousin cross heifer exhibited by JCB Commercials. This March-2025-born weanling is set to compete in upcoming shows.
Brian Lockhart, the society chair, remarked on the event's growth, citing the large turnout of visitors as a key factor in its success. The Newry Show continues to serve as a vital showcase for the farming and food sectors in the region.
