Punjab CM Mann lays foundation stone of Rs 135 cr milk plant expansion project
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday took a significant step towards elevating the state's dairy industry by laying the foundation stone for a Rs 135 crore expansion project at a local milk plant. This ambitious project aims to boost the production of sterilized flavoured milk and introduce new fermented dairy products. Addressing the attendees, Mann remarked that such initiatives were rare during previous regimes, which he accused of focusing solely on personal gains. In contrast, the current state administration emphasizes the welfare of its populace.

Mann announced that Verka, the brand under the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (Milkfed), is setting its sights on global markets by launching products on e-commerce platforms. Additionally, sports stars from the state may become brand ambassadors to enhance Verka's global presence. The project promises not only to strengthen Milkfed's production capabilities but also to enhance the broader dairy sector in the region. This should bring more remunerative prices to dairy farmers. The CM highlighted the introduction of new employee service rules, which would align salaries with government employees and introduce performance-based incentives, fostering a culture of excellence.

Further, Milkfed plans to launch new products like 'Rabri' and 'Kaju Badam' milk, expanding their consumer base and cementing their status as a leading dairy brand. State cooperation has drafted these initiatives, promising to enhance the dairy field that was established in 1973 with the objective of supporting milk producers and effectively marketing their products.

Currently, Milkfed Punjab stands as India's seventh-largest milk cooperative with a business turnover surpassing Rs 6,000 crore. These developments mark a progressive stride in Punjab's pursuit of a thriving dairy industry.
