Farm Production in Russia Grows by Almost 30% Over Five Years
The growth is accompanied by the expansion of the sector itself: in 2025 alone, about 16,000 new farms were registered, confirming the continued interest in small agribusiness.
Today, small-scale farming accounts for nearly half of the total agricultural production in the country, and in certain regions, their share reaches 80%. Farmers make the most significant contribution in sectors with a high proportion of manual labor and local specialization—such as open-field vegetable growing, potato production, milk, berries, and sheep farming products. In these areas, the share of farms exceeds 65%.
An additional factor in the sector's resilience is its social function. Farms create employment in rural areas, develop local brands and agrotourism, thereby diversifying regional economies.
In 2025, the growth rate of the farming segment also outpaced that of large agricultural organizations. According to Rosstat, production in farms increased by 6.4% compared to 5.9% in agroholdings and agricultural enterprises.
