Porto Alegre Expands Portfolio and Regional Reach
Porto Alegre, a Brazilian dairy company under the control of the Swiss Emmi Group, is undertaking a strategic expansion to enhance its market presence in Brazil. This initiative includes strengthening its product portfolio and expanding distribution in the Southeast region while initiating a new management phase.
The company has recently restructured its executive leadership, with Carlos Mafia taking over as the CEO from João Lúcio Carneiro, who retains a 30% stake and remains chairman of the board. Paulo Martins, previously the finance manager, now serves as the Chief Financial Officer.
Porto Alegre aims to boost its revenue from R$ 2.1 billion in 2025 to R$ 2.3 billion this year and maintain double-digit growth annually until 2030. This growth is expected through portfolio expansion and geographical outreach, potentially including future acquisitions.
Currently, the company's portfolio contains 140 products, with notable growth in the natural yogurt line, which reports a 30% annual increase. The company has also introduced retail-focused milk powder and whey yogurt lines.
The company's commercial strategy focuses on expanding sales in Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Rio de Janeiro, along with entering the São Paulo market. It currently processes 1.2 million liters of milk daily, with a capacity to reach 1.5 million liters, producing 11-12 million liters of UHT milk and approximately 1,000 tons of butter and requeijão monthly.
Porto Alegre ranks eighth among the largest dairy companies in Brazil, with a milk collection of 459.6 million liters, according to Abraleite's 2025 ranking. Additionally, it holds a 70% stake in Verde Campo, which focuses on premium lines with nationwide distribution, while Porto Alegre has a more regional focus.
Despite exploring long-term expansion and acquisition opportunities, the company currently has no active negotiations.
