Portakabin, a modular building solutions company, has opened the Dairy Nexus at Scotland's Rural University and College, advancing research in dairy sustainability and productivity.
Portakabin, based in York, has officially opened the Dairy Nexus, a research and innovation facility at Scotland's Rural University and College (SRUC) Barony Campus near Dumfries.
This opening marks a significant milestone as the first completion under the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, supported by £4 million each from the UK and Scottish Governments, complemented by £738,000 from South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE).
The Dairy Nexus aims to advance dairy sustainability and productivity, featuring laboratories and technical equipment for groundbreaking research. James Pearson, divisional managing director at Portakabin, stated: "At Portakabin, we are committed to delivering high-performance, adaptable buildings that address real-world challenges." The facility is expected to become a hub for collaborative research involving scientists, farmers, and industry stakeholders, addressing issues from improving milk quality to reducing cows’ methane emissions.
