New CO2-Based Milk Cooling System Targets Majority of North American Dairies
PRO Refrigeration has introduced its latest offering in the PROGreen Series, the PROGreen50 (PG50), which utilizes CO2 as a refrigerant. This development is aimed at 80% of North American dairy farms, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic refrigerants. The PG50 is designed for mid-sized dairies, providing a practical solution for farms that may not justify larger systems.
The PG50 system incorporates a range of features to enhance performance and efficiency. It includes a next-generation controls platform with expanded I/O capabilities, real-time monitoring options, and an optimized CO2 circuit for the specific operating range of 20 to 40 refrigeration tons. Additionally, the system leverages a proven footprint from PRO's synthetic series, reducing production costs and facilitating scaling.
In California, the cost gap between CO2-based and synthetic systems is narrowing due to incentives like the CARB FRIP program, which offers up to $60,000 per PG50 system. This program requires the removal of equivalent synthetic-based equipment to qualify for funding. The PG50 also features waste heat recovery technology, which significantly reduces fossil fuel usage by converting waste heat into hot water.
