New $30M Dairy Plant in Munger Transforms Milk Supply in Bihar

The recently inaugurated Mother Dairy plant in Munger, Bihar, marks a significant milestone in India's dairy industry. Valued at Rs 250 crores (approximately $30 million USD), the plant is part of a larger Rs 13,000 crore development initiative launched by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. This facility is expected to reshape the milk supply chain across six districts, including Bhagalpur, Banka, Khagaria, Jamui, and Lakhisarai.
The plant was developed under the guidance of the National Dairy Board and is designed to enhance milk production significantly. Initially, the plant will collect 1 lakh liters per day, with plans to double this capacity to 2 lakh liters per day soon. Spread over 15 acres, the facility offers a structured market for local dairy farmers, directly linking them to a large-scale processing factory.
Economically, the plant is a boon for the region, creating more than 250 direct jobs and potentially more indirect employment across the connected districts. The local community views this development as a 'game-changer,' highlighting the government's role in stimulating economic growth and providing much-needed employment opportunities.
Overall, the inauguration of the Munger dairy plant is more than a local event; it symbolizes a strategic investment in modern milk processing infrastructure that stabilizes livelihoods and strengthens the economic fabric of rural India. By supporting thousands of families and creating direct and indirect employment, this project exemplifies the modernization of India's dairy market.
