Nestlé India Targets Top-Five Global Position Through Dairy, Nutrition and Premiumisation
Nestlé India currently sits among Nestlé’s ten largest markets globally, according to the report, and is being positioned for a place in the parent company’s top five. The strategy is based on continued domestic demand, economic expansion and growth across both urban and rural retail networks.
The Indian business operates across several major food and beverage categories. Its portfolio includes Maggi culinary products, Nescafé coffee, confectionery, dairy and infant nutrition. The report identifies these product groups as important contributors to the company’s performance, supported by established brands and broad distribution.
Nestlé has increased capital spending in India to support the expansion. Investment is being directed towards new manufacturing infrastructure, automated supply-chain systems and agricultural sourcing arrangements adapted to local conditions. A large food-production facility in Odisha is among the new projects cited in the report.
Existing dairy operations are also being upgraded. The report names Punjab and Haryana as states where Nestlé is improving dairy-processing capacity. The company is working with local raw-milk and agricultural supply partners as it prepares for further growth in consumption.
Premiumisation is another part of the strategy. Nestlé is placing greater emphasis on higher-value dairy proteins, specialised products for infant and maternal nutrition, and ready-to-drink beverages with functional positioning. The company is also developing products aimed at changing consumer preferences as purchasing power and interest in dietary choices increase.
Distribution is being expanded through several channels, including e-commerce, quick-commerce services and conventional wholesale. Nestlé is targeting consumers in tier-two and tier-three cities as well as rural centres. The report says the company expects portfolio development, capital investment and these distribution channels to strengthen India’s role within its global operations.
