Nandini milk prices rise by ₹8–₹12 per litre in Mysuru
The revised price for a litre of toned milk is ₹54, compared with ₹46 previously, an increase of 17.4%. For Shubham standard and special milk, the price has moved from ₹52 to ₹64 per litre, a rise of 23.1%. The ₹12 increase for these higher-fat varieties exceeds the government’s announced ₹8 adjustment by ₹4.
Officials from Mymul and KMF attribute the differences to milk’s fat content, which determines procurement and processing costs. They say higher-fat varieties therefore require larger price adjustments. That explanation had not been clearly communicated to customers expecting the same increase across milk varieties.
The Mysuru district union has also increased prices for curd in several pack sizes. A one-litre container now costs ₹110, up ₹25, or 29.4%, from ₹85. A 500g pack has risen from ₹28 to ₹34, while a 5kg bucket has increased from ₹395 to ₹465.
Prices for smaller beverage packs have also changed. A 200ml serving of buttermilk now costs ₹12 instead of ₹10. Lassi in the same pack size has moved from ₹14 to ₹16.
Booth operators and franchise parlour licence holders have faced customer objections over the revised charges. Unverified reports also allege that some private vendors and franchised agencies have collected an unauthorised additional ₹1 per pouch, describing it as a charge for refrigeration or cooling.
Former political leaders and consumer advocacy groups have circulated photographs of the packaging as part of a debate over cooperative transparency. They have questioned why the retail increase for higher-fat milk exceeds the ₹7 per litre passed on to primary milk producers.
