MLA raises concerns over UK’s first anti-dairy cinema advert
A UUP MLA has raised concerns over an anti-dairy advert which he has said "fails to fairly represent the reality” of dairy farming in the UK.

The advert, titled ‘Dairy is Scary,’ has been running in some cinemas for as long as eight weeks and was produced by animal rights group 'Viva!'. The group has claimed the video is the first anti-dairy cinema advert.

UUP MLA Robbie Butler said he has flagged concerns to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) after being contacted by a member of the dairy farming community who said the advert "misrepresents the dairy industry."

The Lagan Valley representative said: "Following this complaint, I have contacted the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to seek clarification on whether the advert, which has been showing in cinemas for eight weeks, breaches advertising regulations.

The concerns raised include the advert's potentially misleading claims, its distressing nature, and the way it fails to fairly represent the reality of dairy farming in the UK.” He added that UK dairy farmers “take great pride in their work, ensuring high welfare standards and producing quality milk for customers" and believes that they "deserve fair and accurate representation." Viva! is one of the UK’s largest animal rights activist groups, campaigning for vegan eating since 1994.
