Experts explain the reasons behind the rebound after years of decline in milk consumption in Argentina.

Factors such as the elimination of export taxes, better input-product ratios, and income recovery have boosted milk consumption after years of decline. The milk consumption per capita reached a historical low in May 2024 at 155.8 liters but recovered to 194.1 liters by April 2025, an increase of nearly 20% year-on-year. Key factors include the elimination of export duties in October 2023, improved profitability for producers, macroeconomic stability, higher dollar prices, and favorable climatic conditions. These factors have not only improved domestic consumption but are also reflected in the production sector, with national milk production reporting a 12% year-on-year growth between January and June 2025.
