MGAP promotes sound practices in anti-foot-and-mouth disease vaccination

The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP) has launched a campaign to promote best practices in foot-and-mouth disease vaccination. This initiative includes an informative video that targets livestock farmers, technical staff, and health officials.
The campaign is scheduled from June 15 to July 15, with the video delivering clear and educational content on effective and safe vaccination.
Livestock born in the second half of 2024 and throughout 2025 are expected to be vaccinated within this period. Key recommendations include ensuring animals are dewormed and well-hydrated, managing them calmly to avoid stress, presenting up-to-date health documentation, and maintaining vaccines at temperatures between 2 and 8 °C without freezing them.
Additional guidelines emphasize the use of subcutaneous injection in the neck area and employing clean, calibrated pistol-type syringes with suitable needles. The importance of recording vaccinations on MGAP's health sheets is also highlighted. This campaign aims to foster shared responsibility in safeguarding animal health and the country's disease-free status.
