McDonald’s has announced the launch of its new vegan ice cream, "Vegan Scoop," in the UK, available in two flavors: Choco and Strawberry. Priced at £1.59, the Vegan Scoop is served in a tub similar to a McFlurry and has received certification from The Vegetarian Society. However, McDonald’s cautions that it may not be suitable for those with milk allergies as it is produced in a facility that also handles dairy.

The Vegan Scoop is currently being trialed at 52 locations in the North West of England, including restaurants in Manchester and Stockport. The trial will run until September 3, and a successful test could lead to a UK-wide launch next year.

Additionally, McDonald’s is testing another vegan-friendly frozen dessert, the McFreezy, which is made from frozen fruit juice and puree. Available in orange and mango & pineapple flavors, the McFreezy can be found in 187 restaurants in the North West and selected locations in the Republic of Ireland, also until September 3.

Previously, McDonald’s introduced vegan chocolate McFlurry and McSundae options in Germany in 2022, which have become permanent menu items but have not been launched in other markets.

In the UK, McDonald’s vegan offerings include the McPlant, the Vegetable Deluxe, and the Veggie Dippers. The McPlant, featuring a Beyond Meat patty, has been available in the British Isles since 2021, with high demand reported, particularly in Ireland.

“These products may contain dairy due to the factory in which they are produced,” McDonald’s noted.
