A.P. Moller-Maersk has entered into a partnership with food and beverage leader Danone to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in logistics. The collaboration will utilize Maersk's ECO Delivery Ocean service, an innovative product powered by low-emission fuels like biodiesel and biomethanol sourced exclusively from waste feedstocks.

Danone’s use of ECO Delivery Ocean is expected to achieve a reduction in GHG emissions of over 40% compared to traditional fossil fuel-based logistics, marking a notable step in Danone’s comprehensive decarbonization efforts. Beyond maritime transport, the partnership includes integrated inland transport solutions and dedicated control towers to ensure efficiency throughout the logistics chain.

Jean-Yves Krummenacher, Global Chief Procurement Officer at Danone, commented, “The ECO Delivery Ocean product and its reduced GHG emissions align well with our decarbonization strategy to focus on alternative fuels and multimodal transportation. Maersk is an important partner, and using their product to reduce CO2 emissions on sea freight is another step in our decarbonization journey.”

Emilio de la Cruz, Maersk's Area Managing Director for South West Europe, emphasized the influence of such collaborations, stating, “Well-known companies like Danone can act as a beacon in their industries by using effective levers to decarbonize their supply chains. We are proud to be Danone’s trusted partner in this important task.”

In addition to partnerships like the one with Danone, Maersk continues its broader decarbonization initiatives, including the launch of its first low GHG emissions warehouse in June, located at Taulov Dry Port in Fredericia, Denmark.
