Liconsa Steps Up to Stabilize Milk Prices in Sinaloa

Liconsa to Operate Cheese Factory to Stabilize Milk Prices
In an effort to stabilize the milk prices, Liconsa will soon take over the operations of a cheese factory located in El Recreo, Sinaloa. The agreement, set to be signed next week, aims to process up to 10,000 liters of milk daily in the foreseeable future. This development was announced by José Antonio Lizárraga Rivera, the President of the Local Livestock Association of Mazatlán.
The move by Liconsa is expected to act as a buffer against fluctuating milk prices, which have been adversely affecting local dairy producers. Lizárraga Rivera highlighted that cheese producers often pay insufficient prices to farmers. "Liconsa's involvement is crucial as it sets a base price of 11.50 pesos per liter, compared to the current 9.00 pesos paid by cheese makers," he emphasized.
Ensuring Fairness in the Dairy Industry
The project has been under negotiation since October last year, involving extensive dialogues to meet the requirements of Liconsa. Alongside the operational takeover, the state government is expected to assist in enhancing transportation logistics. The proposal includes acquiring two small trucks instead of one large tanker for efficient transport of milk to Mazatlán and onwards to Guadalajara.
Through this initiative, Lizárraga Rivera calls upon producers to join the project to leverage its economic benefits and achieve sector stability in the region, which is considered the largest dairy basin in southern Sinaloa.
