Lechetón Puebla 2026 sets a 150,000-litre milk target
The annual campaign was launched in Puebla with a collection target of 150,000 litres of packaged liquid milk. Most of the requested product is expected to be ultrapasteurised, or UHT, milk.
Organisers intend to direct the donations to children, pregnant women and older people facing extreme poverty or food insecurity. The planned recipients live in peripheral neighbourhoods and rural municipalities across the state.
The Cáritas Puebla Food Bank is coordinating the initiative with local DIF welfare systems, universities, business chambers and citizen organisations. Collection points have been established at schools, government offices, companies and shopping centres.
The operating plan includes the storage and tracking of aseptic containers. According to the campaign’s organisers, these procedures are intended to preserve product safety and maintain shelf life until the milk reaches the communities selected for distribution.
Lechetón is presented as a public-health measure addressing malnutrition and childhood anaemia in Puebla’s most marginalised areas. The campaign’s description highlights the nutritional content of cow’s milk, including proteins, calcium, phosphorus and vitamins A and D, which it identifies as nutrients associated with physical growth, bone health and children’s cognitive development.
The 2026 edition also emphasises long-life aseptic packaging for areas where refrigerated storage is limited or unavailable. The campaign says the collection will support demand for genuine, industrially processed milk and underlines the role of dairy companies in supplying essential food products. It describes the initiative as a model of public-private cooperation for delivering dairy products to families with limited access to food.
