Leche para el Bienestar Expands Distribution Network in Pachuca

Leche para el Bienestar, under the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development, has inaugurated a new retail distribution center in Pachuca, Hidalgo. This new point of sale, strategically located in the Fraccionamiento Campo de Tiro, will initially include 108 new beneficiaries in the federal assistance scheme.

The opening is part of a medium-term strategy to strengthen the distribution infrastructure of the Social Milk Supply Program in vulnerable urban areas in central Mexico. With this addition, Pachuca's supply network now totals 23 active sales points, capable of regularly serving 14,922 direct beneficiaries.

This expansion improves logistical efficiency by reducing transportation costs, ensuring a steady flow of essential dairy products at subsidized prices. This measure helps protect the purchasing power of local families against inflationary shocks.

Sharon Macotela Cisneros, the representative of Leche para el Bienestar in Hidalgo, highlighted the rigorous fortification profile of the distributed dairy portfolio, which includes iron, zinc, folic acid, and vitamins A, C, D, B2, and B12. These micronutrients are added to the original milk matrix to mitigate anemia and malnutrition rates among vulnerable populations.

The program's expansion aligns with the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, which aims to broaden the eligibility criteria for target populations. Current operational guidelines extend benefits to children from six months to 17 years old, pregnant and lactating women, adults over 45, and individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions.

This social supply model plays a crucial role in stabilizing the regional dairy market by creating a predictable demand channel for processed fluids. It ensures nutritional support for school performance and bone health among the elderly, thereby acting as an essential socio-economic buffer.
