Nestlé's condensed milk factory in Pontecesures, Pontevedra, has recently appointed Damián Fernández as its new director. Fernández takes over from Júlio Diniz, who will soon lead the Nestlé factory in Avanca, Portugal.
Fernández, born in Switzerland but raised in Galicia, holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela and has nearly 20 years of experience with Nestlé.
His career began in the Sales and Infant Nutrition department in Galicia, and he has held various positions, including Production Manager at the Pontecesures factory and in other Nestlé production facilities.
The new director's objectives include enhancing factory efficiencies and boosting competitiveness through digitalization. Additionally, he aims to increase export volumes of products manufactured in Galicia to other countries.
The Pontecesures facility is a significant player in Nestlé's network, exporting condensed milk, including the LA LECHERA brand, globally. Opened in 1939, the factory has undergone modernization to improve productivity and logistics operations.
As of 2012, it is the only Nestlé facility in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa dedicated to condensed milk production, employing over 200 workers.
