Kyrgyzstan Aims for Productivity Growth: 5000 Liters of Milk per Cow by 2030

The initiative was announced at an industry meeting chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Erlis Akunbekov. The focus of the discussion was a shift in the development model: from increasing livestock numbers to enhancing productivity and added value.

To achieve the target indicators, a comprehensive set of measures is provided:

  • development of pedigree livestock breeding (the country already has 186 pedigree farms);
  • expansion of artificial insemination practices;
  • preservation and improvement of the animal gene pool;
  • implementation of digital solutions and creation of a unified database.

Experts have identified several systemic problems hindering productivity growth: an underdeveloped feed base; a shortage of skilled personnel; a fragmented farm structure.

Special attention is being paid to the need for farm consolidation and the development of cooperation. This should:

  • increase production efficiency;
  • reduce costs;
  • improve access to technologies and financing.

Alongside productivity growth, the state emphasizes the development of deep processing, which will allow for an increase in product added value, strengthening of export potential, and enhancement of the sector's resilience to price fluctuations.
