INIA authorized to produce high-quality goat semen in Peru

The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), under the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), has been granted a key health authorization to produce and market elite goat semen. This development is seen as a milestone for Peruvian farmers who are aiming to improve milk and meat production.

The authorization is crucial in boosting goat milk and meat production across Peru. By providing access to superior genetic material, the INIA will enable multiple producers to enhance the productivity of their herds efficiently. This focus on genetics is vital for more than 90,000 Peruvian livestock farmers who mainly engage in subsistence farming and can now access tools that enhance the profitability and competitiveness of their operations.

INIA's initiative forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen goat farming nationwide. Producing high-quality genetic semen is central to developing technologies that allow farmers to better manage and enhance their animals' efficiency. This effort includes knowledge transfer regarding good breeding practices and genetic improvement, illustrating a comprehensive government approach to supporting producers.

The ultimate goal is to make goat breeding a profitable and sustainable activity throughout Peru. By generating and transferring genetic improvement technologies, INIA intends to raise the value of goat meat and milk production, positioning Peru on the regional agrarian innovation map. This advancement benefits farmers economically and contributes directly to the country's food security.
