India’s Dairy Giants Bet Big on Protein Boom

India’s leading dairy firms are at the forefront of a protein revolution, transforming everyday dairy products into high-protein staples. Targeting a market poised to double to over $1 billion by 2027, brands such as Amul, Parag, Danone, and MuscleBlaze are innovating products like high-protein milk, yoghurts, and spreads. With 73% of Indian adults consuming less protein than recommended, the opportunity is immense.
Amul leads with whey protein-fortified beverages, while Danone expands its Protinex brand. Startups like Milk Mantra and NutriMoo are also stepping into the space with protein-rich offerings. There's a strategic shift towards embedding protein in traditional diets, focusing on education rather than celebrity endorsements.
The shift from carb-heavy to protein-balanced nutrition is rapid. By integrating protein into familiar foods, the industry hopes to make a significant nutritional impact, supporting over 1.4 billion people in India.
