India’s Dairy Giant Slashes Prices on 700 Products
In a strategic effort to boost consumer spending, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), known for marketing products under the Amul brand, announced a price reduction on over 700 product packs following a decrease in India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates. Effective September 22, these price cuts encompass daily staples such as butter and ghee, as well as processed and frozen goods.

For instance, a 1-litre carton of Amul Ghee is now Rs 40 cheaper, and Amul Butter sees a Rs 4 reduction for a 100g pack. Similarly, the price of premium items like a 1-litre tub of Vanilla Magic ice cream has been slashed by Rs 60. These adjustments make dairy staples more affordable while strategically offering deep cuts on high-margin products like ice cream, aimed at attracting new consumers and expanding market share. The cooperative, underpinned by 3.6 million farmers, intends these reductions to catalyze increased demand and set an example for other agribusinesses looking to grow their market presence.
