India Imports High-Performance Holstein Bulls to Boost Dairy Genetics

In a significant development for the Indian dairy industry, Genus Breeding India Private Limited, known as ABS India, alongside the Chitale Group, has announced the importation of elite Holstein bulls with a Total Performance Index (TPI) exceeding 3000 from ABS Global in Wisconsin, USA. This marks the first instance of live Holstein bulls with such high genetic merit being introduced to India, setting a new standard for genetic excellence in the country's dairy sector.

The milestone was celebrated at a launch event held at the Bramha Semen Station of Chitale Genus ABS India Private Limited. Attended by senior leadership, industry experts, and breeding professionals, the event highlighted the strategic importance of advanced dairy genetics in shaping India’s dairy trends and enhancing milk production systems. During the ceremony, Dr. Dinesh Singh Rawat, General Manager of ABS India, handed over the first batch of semen from these elite bulls to Mr. Vishvas Chitale, Director of Chitale Dairy, symbolizing the beginning of a new era in precision dairy farming.

Among the imported bulls is a standout named Oscar, identified by NAAB 29HO22333 and NDLM Bull ID CHI-HF-22333. These bulls, with a TPI above 3000, are expected to significantly boost milk yield, fertility, longevity, and overall herd performance under Indian conditions. The availability of both sexed and conventional semen from these sires will support both dairy cooperative and private breeding initiatives, offering farmers access to globally validated genetics aimed at improving milk solids, productivity, and herd health.

The introduction of these TPI 3000+ Holstein bulls aligns with broader market growth ambitions and evolving industry forecasts for India. As milk procurement prices fluctuate and the demand for value-added dairy products increases, genetic improvement remains crucial for profitability and sustainability. Advanced genetics not only contribute to higher milk yields but also improve feed efficiency and reduce resource intensity, supporting sustainable and eco-friendly dairy farming practices in India.

This development signifies a strengthened position for India in dairy production narratives and reinforces confidence in the country's ability to deliver a consistent, high-quality milk supply. The strategic collaboration between ABS India and Chitale Dairy continues to shape the trajectory of the Indian dairy industry, combining global expertise with local implementation to drive measurable on-farm results.
