ICMSA Challenges Milk Price Cuts Amidst Market Stability

The Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association (ICMSA) has firmly stated that there is "absolutely no basis" for any decrease in the milk price offered to farmers in April and during the key supply months. As dairy processors gear up to confirm April's milk prices, Noel Murphy, chairperson of ICMSA's Dairy Committee, emphasized that recent price drops for March and February lack market justification.
Murphy observed that the global milk supply has been weak with marginal volume increases in early 2025, whilst demand remains robust due to the superior reputation of the dairy products, even at elevated prices. The markets, reflecting this analysis, exhibited stability with butter, skim milk powder, and whole milk powder prices holding between 48c/L and 51c/L.
Murphy highlighted the remarkable consistency in prices since the start of 2025 amidst international economic uncertainties and environmental sustainability demands, reinforcing that milk prices during peak periods should at least maintain current levels.
