The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) increases sanitary controls after detecting foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks affecting dairy cattle in Hungary and Slovakia.

Since the latest epidemiological update on April 11, 2025, MAPA confirmed a new focus of foot-and-mouth disease at a dairy cattle farm in Hungary, dated April 17, 2025.
This case is related to the first outbreak in the country and is within the additional restriction zone established by European authorities. The European Commission has expanded the restriction zone in Hungary, including new areas in the country. The latest outbreak is within a newly established restriction zone.
MAPA's recommendations include enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols for livestock transport, raising awareness among farmers and veterinarians, and immediate notification of any suspicion. A table showing the recorded outbreaks up to April 21, 2025, details the number and type of cases in Slovakia and Hungary, including primary and secondary instances, along with species and serotypes involved.
