Himachal Pradesh Partners with NDDB to Enhance Dairy Sector

The Himachal Pradesh government finalized an agreement with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to advance the state's dairy industry. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Shimla, focuses on enhancing milk processing capabilities and creating employment opportunities for local farmers, as articulated by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The agreement builds on a previous 2023 understanding with NDDB to develop the Dagwar dairy project, which aimed to introduce world-class technology in milk processing and bio-products. This new MoU emphasizes operationalizing the Dagwar plant and improving milk processing units through computerized quality control systems.

Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the potential for the state's natural environment to support dairy-based industries, with products to be marketed under the 'HIM' brand, further bolstering the sector.

The initiative is expected to provide new livelihood opportunities, especially in rural areas. Sukhu noted a significant increase in milk production since his government took office, and he expressed optimism about the potential impact of the new dairy infrastructure.

Besides this, the state is working on its first nutrition policy, focusing on the quality and nutritional value of food and dairy products consumed by its people.
