Gujarat AI Technician Achieves Record Conception Rates in Dairy Sector

Deepak Patel, an Artificial Insemination (AI) technician from Vaheval village in Gujarat, has recorded an 80% conception success rate, the highest in the country. This achievement has earned him the nickname 'Miracle Boy' in India's dairy sector. Patel has been employed by the Surat District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union Ltd, also known as Sumul Dairy, since 1999, maintaining this remarkable success rate consistently over the years.

Experts in the field note that the average AI conception rate in India ranges from 35% to 40%, making Patel's 80% rate significantly higher than both state and national averages. His meticulous timing and methodical approach to AI procedures have been cited as key factors behind his success.

Sumul Dairy conducts approximately 500,000 AI procedures annually across Surat and Tapi districts, with an average conception rate of 53%. Patel's exceptional performance directly translates into higher-quality livestock, increased milk production, and improved financial outcomes for farmers.

According to PR Pandey, former Managing Director of Sumul Dairy, Patel's work has led to a notable increase in cattle milk productivity in Mahuva Taluka of Surat district. In this region, crossbred cows produce an average of 11.2 liters of milk per day, outpacing both the Gujarat average of 8.05 liters and the national average of 7.4 liters.

Patel's contributions have been recognized at both state and national levels. His story has been documented in the book 'The Miracle Boy-Deepak Patel' and a documentary film titled 'Safal Bijdan,' produced by the National Dairy Development Board to train other AI technicians in India.
