Guernsey Implements Temporary Ban on Personal Food Imports from Europe

Guernsey has recently reiterated its import rules surrounding food as more individuals utilize the enhanced link between Guernsey and St Malo. The States have emphasized that individuals cannot bring back meat and dairy products upon returning from regions such as Brittany and Normandy, or elsewhere in Europe, due to the prevalence of highly-infectious animal diseases like African Swine Fever on the continent. This precautionary measure aims to curb the spread of such diseases to Guernsey.
The prohibition on bringing back food is a temporary measure, prompted by concerns regarding the food's provenance and storage conditions. While personal imports are restricted, commercial importers are still permitted to bring in these goods, provided they adhere to strict rules concerning food storage and transportation. Commercial entities are required to have appropriate documentation verifying the food's origin and any conducted health inspections.
The reminder for these import regulations is catalyzed by the increased popularity of the St Malo link, now enhanced by Brittany Ferries, facilitating travel between Guernsey and the European mainland.
