Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a comprehensive initiative to increase milk and dairy production in India, acknowledging the country's status as the largest milk producer globally.

In the fiscal year 2022-23, India's milk production saw a notable 4% increase, reaching a total of 230.58 million tonnes. To further strengthen the dairy industry, Sitharaman outlined plans to develop strategic measures aimed at achieving self-reliance (Atma Nirbharta) in oilseeds production.
