Expointer 2026 will bring consumers closer to milk producers

Expointer 2026 will include activities covering Brazil’s dairy chain at the Assis Brasil Exhibition Park in Esteio, Rio Grande do Sul, from August 29th to September 6th. The programme is intended to show how dairy products move from farms through processing plants before reaching consumers.

The Association of Small and Medium-sized Dairy Industries of Rio Grande do Sul, known as Apil, is organising two initiatives with the Association of Holstein Cattle Breeders of Rio Grande do Sul, or Gadolando. One is the Memorial do Queijo Gaúcho, which will operate at Casa Apil during the fair. It will present the history and traditions of cheeses made in the state while describing the stages behind their production.

The memorial will cover animal care, milk production on farms, industrial processing and the manufacture of dairy products. Its subjects will also include traceability, animal welfare, farm management and sanitary controls in factories. Fernando Zimmermann, Apil’s president, said the initiative was designed to increase consumers’ understanding of the origin and quality of products from Rio Grande do Sul and to encourage dairy consumption.

The material will describe quality as the result of controls across the production chain. Feed, herd health, milking hygiene, preservation and storage affect the raw material at the farm. At the factory, checks continue with the receipt and analysis of milk, followed by processing and the production of derivatives.

The second project, titled “The good side of being a milk producer”, will be launched on September 4th at Expointer, with participation from Apil and Gadolando and attendance by the press. It will focus on people working on farms, including those who care for herds each day and maintain ties with animals, land and rural communities. The campaign will also describe the regular income generated by milk sold in most months. The source material notes that this pattern does not remove exposure to prices, costs or weather conditions, but can help farms arrange income and expenditure throughout the year. This differs from agricultural activities in which revenue is often concentrated around particular periods, especially after harvests.

Apil’s sector programme starts on September 3rd with technical and market sessions. A Technical Council meeting is scheduled for 9:30am, followed at 10:30am by a workshop called “Tax Reform Changes More Than Just Tax”, organised by Ektos Contabilidade. A business lunch is planned for 1pm, followed by an associates’ meeting at 2pm.

At 3:30pm, the state tax authority’s Market Radar will be presented, covering commercial opportunities, competitors and suppliers. The session will include Kátia Gisele de Souza, head of the Economic-Fiscal Intelligence Division at the Rio Grande do Sul Finance Secretariat, and Vitor Feijó, a tax auditor in its Economic-Fiscal Analysis Section. The following day’s agenda will centre on the launch of the dairy-farmer campaign. Apil has said that Brazil’s market for milk and proteins has favourable prospects, and has identified production efficiency, quality, animal health, innovation and competitiveness as relevant to expanding production, processing and international dairy trade. The association also links recognition of farmers with the continued presence of families in rural areas and with supplying the dairy-processing industry.
