Estonia: Dairy Prices Dip, Flour Follows, Eggs Buck Trend

According to data from the Estonian Institute of Economic Research, April witnessed a notable decline in dairy product prices, with milk leading the charge by plummeting nearly 25 percent compared to the previous year. Concurrently, flour prices also experienced a decrease, while egg prices bucked the trend by rising slightly.
Highlights from the data reveal that numerous products were marginally cheaper in April 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
A liter of milk packaged in plastic saw a significant drop in price, selling for 67 cents compared to 88 cents a year ago, marking a 24 percent decrease. Similarly, milk packaged in tetra packs was priced at €1.20, down from €1.24.
Sour cream prices witnessed a notable decline of 13 percent, with a kilogram now costing €3.13, down from €3.58 a year ago.
Other dairy products such as kefir and coffee cream experienced an 8 percent reduction in price, while butter saw a modest decrease from €12.77 to €13.28.
Cheese prices exhibited minimal change, decreasing by only 2 percent per kilogram, with the current price standing at €11.47 compared to €11.68 a year ago. Conversely, cottage cheese prices saw a marginal increase of 2 cents.
The most significant changes in dairy product prices were observed on a year-on-year basis, with minimal fluctuations between March and April.
In contrast, egg prices showed an upward trajectory on an annual basis, with a 6 percent increase for local produce and a 1 percent rise for imported eggs. However, compared to March, egg prices remained relatively stable.
