El Salvador Boosts Dairy Industry with Quality and Competitiveness Initiative

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) in collaboration with the private sector, has announced a groundbreaking initiative to enhance the quality and competitiveness of El Salvador's dairy sector. This strategic move seeks to provide high-quality dairy products while fostering economic growth within the industry.

During the National Dairy Sector Meeting of El Salvador and Central America (ENLAC), the initiative was officially unveiled, highlighting its potential impact on the livestock economy and the improved connectivity between producers and processing plants.

Lorena Heredia de Amaya, Executive Director of the Salvadoran Association of Ranchers and Dairy Industry (Asileche), emphasized that the initiative not only promotes excellence in production but also ensures that products reach consumers with necessary safety and traceability measures.

Adherence to Standards

Companies wishing to market with this certification must adhere to standards set by MAG. Companies already involved include Quesos Petacones, La Cooperativa Ganadera Sonsonate – La Salud, Lactolac, and Los Quesos de Oriente, among others in the process of joining.

Furthermore, the event featured conferences by national and international experts on essential topics for the dairy industry, such as innovation in production, sustainability, and sector profitability improvement. Additionally, there was an exhibition of products with tastings to showcase the variety and quality of dairy products made in the country. Asileche also signed an agreement with the Salvadoran University Alberto Masferrer (USAM) to bolster academic training and research in the livestock field.

With this effort, El Salvador aims to position itself as a regionally competitive dairy market capable of meeting national and international demands.

This joint effort not only benefits affiliated producers and companies but also assures consumers of certified products meeting safety, sustainability, and traceability standards. Backed by MAG and academic collaboration, the initiative aims to drive innovation in dairy production, facilitate the development of value-added products, and enhance El Salvador's position in international markets.
