DFA Expands Hispanic Cheese Market with New Acquisition
Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has strategically acquired W&W Dairy in Monroe, Wisconsin, marking a significant expansion in the Hispanic cheese sector. The acquisition includes the W&W Dairy business and its licensed brands, aiming to enhance DFA's market position in the international dairy community. The Monroe facility specializes in various traditional Hispanic cheeses, such as queso fresco, cotija, and panela. Ken Orf, president of DFA's cheese division, highlighted the rapid growth of the Hispanic cheese market, noting it is expanding more than three times faster than the overall cheese category. This move is set to provide DFA with a second facility dedicated to Hispanic cheese production, complementing its existing operations in Houston, Texas.

The acquisition reinforces DFA's commitment to business growth and stability, offering employment opportunities to all 97 employees at Monroe. This marks DFA's second major acquisition of the year, following its purchase of Winona Foods’ Lineville facility. Ken Orf emphasizes that these strategic investments are poised to add value for DFA's farmer-owners and drive innovation in the cheese category, keeping pace with evolving consumer preferences and market trends. The move is a testament to adaptability and strategic focus in niche markets, highlighting the importance of forward-looking business models in agribusiness and the dairy sector.
