Decline in Milk Prices and Production in Asturias
In recent developments, the price of cow's milk in Asturias, Spain, has decreased by 4.8% over the last year. The region has also witnessed a 1.3% decline in milk deliveries during the ongoing campaign.
This recent drop follows seven consecutive years of increasing milk prices in Asturias. Notably, the year 2023 saw a significant hike in prices, adding to the 28.9% rise in 2022. These increases came amid an inflationary spiral that also impacted production costs in the dairy sector.
Decline in Milk Deliveries in the Current Campaign
Asturian farmers supplied 345,413 tons of cow's milk in the first eight months of the 2024/2025 campaign, which began last April, marking an annual decrease of 1.3%. This data comes from the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund as reported by the Asturian Society for Economic and Industrial Studies.
The deliveries in Asturias, which have been decreasing for three consecutive campaigns, accounted for 7.2% of the national total, slightly lower by four hundredths compared to the previous campaign, marking the lowest proportion in the series.
