David Nation, the Managing Director of Dairy Australia, has announced his decision to step down from the role in June 2025, marking the conclusion of a transformative seven-year tenure. The timing coincides with the end of Dairy Australia’s current five-year Strategic Plan and the launch of a new strategy in July, providing a natural transition for leadership.

Reflecting on Achievements

“Leading Dairy Australia has been an immense privilege, and I am proud of what I have achieved together with outstanding people in the organisation who show genuine passion for delivering outcomes for farmers each day,” Dr. Nation said.

During his tenure, Dr. Nation spearheaded numerous initiatives, including expanding Dairy Australia’s regional presence, fostering stronger connections with farmers, and bolstering both domestic and export markets. These achievements have helped position the organization as a critical player in supporting Australia’s dairy industry.

A Legacy of Leadership

Paul Roderick, Chair of Dairy Australia, commended Dr. Nation for his significant contributions. “David’s leadership, combined with his deep knowledge and understanding of dairy research and innovation, has been a major contributor to the Australian dairy industry,” Roderick said.

Dr. Nation joined Dairy Australia in 2018, bringing extensive experience in dairy research and innovation. His previous roles included serving as Co-Director of DairyBio and DairyFeedbase and Chief Executive Officer of Dairy Futures CRC, where he advanced research initiatives aimed at improving productivity and sustainability within the sector.

Leadership Transition

To ensure a seamless leadership transition, Dairy Australia’s Board has enlisted executive recruitment firm Pacific Search Partners to identify a successor. The search process, which is expected to take up to six months, will aim to find a leader who can continue building on the foundation laid by Dr. Nation.

Looking Ahead

Dr. Nation’s departure marks the end of a chapter defined by innovation, collaboration, and growth for Dairy Australia. As the organization prepares to implement its new strategy, the next Managing Director will inherit a strong platform to further advance the interests of Australia’s dairy farmers and the broader industry.

With this transition, Dairy Australia aims to maintain its momentum, supporting sustainable growth and reinforcing the resilience of the Australian dairy sector in a rapidly changing global market.
