Danone’s Green Revolution: 6,500 Biogas Plants!

Global food giant Danone is making a significant move towards sustainable dairy production by partnering with Sistema.bio to install 6,500 biogas plants on dairy farms worldwide by 2030. This ambitious initiative highlights Danone's commitment to significantly reduce methane emissions from its supply chain, marking a crucial step in the decarbonization of the dairy sector. The rollout will begin in key regions including Mexico, India, and Morocco.

These biogas systems provide an effective solution for manure management, transforming livestock waste into valuable resources. This technology not only mitigates potent methane emissions but also converts farm waste into renewable biogas and organic fertilizer, enhancing soil health and reducing the need for chemical inputs. This dual benefit offers environmental advantages and economic incentives for dairy farmers.

Sistema.bio, the chosen partner, will supply prefabricated, modular biodigester systems, provide vital training, facilitate financing, and offer ongoing technical assistance to farmers. Such an integrated approach is vital for ensuring successful adoption and sustainability of these green energy solutions.

Danone aims to not only meet its environmental targets but also improve the livelihoods of over 60,000 dairy farmers globally, particularly in emerging markets. This initiative positions Danone as a leader in fostering sustainable practices across the entire dairy supply chain.
