In the first two months of 2025, China's dairy imports rose by 7.6%, driven primarily by butter and cream, according to the Observatorio de la Cadena Láctea Argentina (OCLA).

Butter imports increased by a staggering 72.6% and cream by 12.7%, with New Zealand and France as the main suppliers.

Cheese imports also grew by 14.5%, with New Zealand and Australia providing 80% of these imports.

Despite a reduction in overall imports from the EU by 16.5%, Italy became the leading European supplier of fresh cheeses with a rise of 38.7%.

Conversely, there was a decrease in imports of powdered milk and packaged milk, reflecting weaker demand and rising domestic production in China.

Meanwhile, Argentina exported 29,531 tons of dairy products in January 2025, valued at $116.1 million, showing declines in both volume and value compared to the previous year, with milk powder accounting for 35.1% of the export value.
